چکیده

Over the past several years, numerous essays have examined the deterrent effects of aggressive police patrol strategies like traffic law enforcement (Jacob and Rich, 1981; Sampson and Cohen, 1988; Wilson and Boland, 1978, 1981). This essay continues this line of research. It reports on the results of a field experiment in Dayton, Ohio, designed to measure the effects of traffic law enforcement on crime, arrests and traffic accidents. The paper is organized as follows. First, we review some previous studies in this area. Next, we describe the design and analysis of the Dayton experiment. Finally, we discuss our findings and offer some suggestions for further research.

Scalable DiffServ-over-MPLS Traffic Engineering with Per-flow Traffic Policing

This paper proposes a DiffServ-over-MPLS Traffic Engineering (TE) architecture and describes the implementation of its functional blocks on Intel IXP2400 Network Processor using Intel IXA SDK 4.1 framework. We propose fast and scalable 6-tuple range-match classifier, which allows traffic policing procedures to operate on per-flow level, and a scalable low-jitter Deficit Round Robin (DRR) schedu...

Impact of ATM traffic control on MPEG-2 video quality

In this paper, a performance study of controlled MPEG-2 video traffic over an ATM network is presented. ATM networks are able to support variable bit rate (VBR) video sources. However, to implement QoS contract enforcement, traffic policers such as a Leaky Bucket need to be incorporated in order to change the VBR characteristics of a video stream. Our study investigates the video quality achiev...
